What Is Wrong with Writers?

Yes, I'm still alive. But not kicking. It's the first week of school, and I'm teaching three English classes up at the college, along with the part time job I work at our local Senior Center as well as being a full time writer. So my life is busy busy busy, but I've got interesting plans for the blog and the book coming up soon. Now, time to take my own medicine, set up a reading/grading/writing schedule and I'm all good to go! Feel free to comment if you are a fellow teacher or a student--what has your first week been like so far?

Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?
Books make me happy in general. Whatever I happen to be reading, it provides so much from being a friend to something to look forward to at the end of the day. There are days when things are bad, or I get sad about something and I'll grab an old favorite as a recognition, or sometimes validation, that feelings are, like, okay.  As I've quoted here before from Stephen King, "you never know when you might need an escape hatch."
